Sebastian Kalbfleisch

Scientific Associate, NSLS-II Hard X-ray Nanoprobe, Photon Division

Sebastian Kalbfleisch joined the Photon Sciences Directorate in January 2013. He came from a postdoctoral position at Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen, Germany.
At NSLS-II Sebastian works with Yong Chu on the installation, commissioning, and operation of the Hard X-ray Nanoprobe beamline and its microscope endstations.

Sebastian holds a Ph.D. from Georg-August-Universität, where he did his thesis on "A Dedicated Endstation for Waveguide-based X-Ray Imaging". His doctoral work was focused on the design, construction and commissioning of a endstation for waveguide-based lensless hard x-ray imaging, installed at the P10 Coherence Beamline of PETRA III at DESY. Sebastian was responsible for developing the conceptual design, including the nabofocussing optics with a Kirkpatrick-Baez mirror system, nanopositioners for waveguide and sample alignment. He was also responsible for the technical specifications, selection and procurement of those components.
