Project Engineer I, NSLS-II Mechanical Engineering Group, Accelerator Systems Division
Frank DePaola joined NSLS-II on May 3, 2010 and will report to Sushil Sharma, Mechanical Engineering Group Leader. In his new role, Frank will be responsible for reviewing drawings and providing guidance to improve manufacturability, performance, cost and schedule; coordinating engineering specifications, statement of work, vendor selection, and quality assurance in support of the contract manufacturing; acting as a liaison between the engineering, manufacturing, QA and safety teams; performing on-site evaluation for manufacturing capacity and technical capabilities of the potential suppliers; developing inspection, test and measurement plans to ensure that cost, performance and schedule goals are met; and preparing layouts for various laboratories for the fabrication, assembly and testing of accelerator hardware.
Prior to arriving at Brookhaven, Frank spent over 20 years at Argonne National Laboratory as a manufacturing engineer, providing engineering support and reviewing drawings to optimize designs while minimizing manufacturing costs. He also developed cost estimates and delivery schedules for work performed by the on-site machine shop, prepared manufacturing process plans for complex accelerator components, and determined the best method and source of manufacturing.
