Charles Hetzel

Mechanical Engineer, NSLS-II Accelerator Systems Division


Prior to joining NSLS-II, Charles Hetzel held the title of Lead Project Engineer for a design and manufacturing organization. He was responsible for the design and manufacture of automated industrial machinery. He has over 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.

Charlie attained his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic University in Farmingdale.

Reporting directly to Dick Hseuh, Charlie’s responsibilities include design, analysis and fabrication of precision vacuum chambers and appendage components, including extrusion, machining, welding and brazing of these components with daily interaction with BNL and vendor fabrication facilities. He will also direct other technical staff in the assembly and measurement of these components, leading to the installation and commissioning of the storage ring vacuum systems.
