NSLS-II HXN Beamline Group Leader, Photon Division
Yong Chu joined the Photon Sciences Directorate from Argonne National Laboratory’s Advanced Photon Source (APS). As a physicist at APS, he took an active part in the development and instrumentation of techniques focusing on designing and commissioning a full-field transmission X-ray microscope at beamline 32-ID, working with Xradia X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS).
Chu holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois, Urbana. His fields of expertise are: X-ray diffraction and scattering, X-ray microscopy and imaging, and synchrotron instrumentation and X-ray optics.
As the Hard X-ray Nanoprobe (HXN) group leader, Chu will work closely with the user community to define the scientific mission and technical requirements for the HXN beamline, including its design, construction, and commissioning. He will also be responsible for developing and managing HXN's scientific research program.
